Indian History can be categorized as follows:

Indus Ages (up to 1500 BC) characterized by the brilliant Semito-Dravidian Indus Valley Civilization.
Brahmanic Ages (1500 BC - 1000 AD) These comprised the
- Vedic Dark Ages 1500 BC - 500 BC
- Puranic Ages 500 BC - 100 AD
Hindustani Califate of Delhi (1000 AD - 1857 AD) Also known as the Islamic period.
Post-Delhi Era (1857 -> ) This includes the Post-Colonial Epoch (1947 -> ).
